The Kinderhook Fire Department is dedicated to
strengthen its commitment to the community. The mission of our
Explorers' Post is to introduce young men and women of our fire district
to the volunteer fire service. Through involvement with on-scene calls,
drills, presentations, and other firehouse activities, Explorers will
gain valuable insight to the purpose and operation of a volunteer fire
department. They will be able to examine important aspects of the fire
service such as command structure, fire-ground procedures and
strategies, firefighter safety, truck, tool and equipment usage, as well
as ancillary support on fire and non fire-related emergencies.
Joining an Explorers Post will also help a young
person develop a strong sense of belonging and teamwork as they work
with active volunteer firefighters and community leaders. The knowledge
and skill aptitude achieved here will not only increase their confidence
as maturing individuals but will also assist them in making the
transition, at the age of eighteen, into the fire company as an active
member, if they choose to do so. However, the most important knowledge
gained by Explorers is an increased awareness of fire safety and how it
relates to their community.
Each year there are various 911 emergencies that
occur within a community and it is up to knowledgeable and dedicated
volunteer firefighters to respond to those calls. Becoming an Explorer
is a crucial step to becoming a volunteer firefighter and provides a
solid foundation to the Fire Company and the community it is sworn to
protect.
If you are between the ages of 14 and 17 years of age and are
